Lewes Film ClubAward winning French Canadian drama. When a teacher kills herself at a Montreal primary school , Bachir Lazhar (Mohamed Fellag), a 55-year-old Algerian immigrant, goes to the school to offer his services as a substitute teacher. Somewhat rusty in his teaching style we watch as he adjusts to life in the school and the various culture clashes he encounters. Nobody in the school is aware of Bachir’s painful past or suspect that he is at risk of being deported. A warm and uplifting experience.
