Lewes Film ClubWinner of the Golden bear documentary prize at the Berlin Film Festival, Fire At Sea is an important and timely release, exploring as it does the chaos and despair of the ongoing migrant crisis. It is set on the island of Lampedusa and embeds us in the life of Samuele, a 12 year old resident, while contrasting the settled lives of Lampedusans with the complete disenfranchisement of the migrants desperately seeking a place of safety. Quiet, unflashy film-making that packs a powerful punch.
