THE THIRD MAN           [PG]       93 mins
CAROL REED  (UK 1949)
Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten, Alida Val

Lewes Film ClubWriter Holly Martins arrives in Vienna to meet his old friend Harry Lime but finds that Lime has apparently been killed in a suspicious accident. When he tries to uncover the truth Martins himself is chased by unknown assailants. Will his curiosity lead him to discover things about his old friend that he’d rather not know? Voted the ‘greatest British film of all time’ by a BFI poll, now beautifully restored for the big screen, scripted by Graham Greene and set to Anton Karas’ evocative zither score, this is a justly celebrated classic.
